Igår var det ”lilla julafton” hos Britt och John. Kristin var med och efter god middag distribuerades försenade julklappar. Sedan spelade vi spel som Sigge vann som vanligt.
Yesterday it was ”little Christmas” at Britt’s and John’s. Kristin joined too, and after a delicious dinner delayed Christmas presents were distributed. Then we played a game which Sigge won as usual.
Sigge hämtade skotern i Nora. Efter en vådlig färd över is, stock och sten och många omkullåkningar i lössnön lyckades han ta sig ända fram till Kolbacken. Där körde han fast i branten. Med hjälp av Kristin kunde han till sist gräva fram skotern och köra den ända fram till huset.
Sigge fetched the snowmobile in Nora. After a hazardous ride over ice, up hill and down dale, and after having fallen over many times in the loose snow, he managed to get all the way to Kolbacken. There he got stuck on the steep slope. With help from Kristin he finally could dig up the snowmobile and drive it all the way up to the house.
Äntligen! Är vattenledningarna upptinade så vi har vatten igen. Vi har bara haft vatten i köket och bara kallvatten, kallt som is, sedan julaftonskväll. Inte roligt att tvätta fötterna i. Elektriker Bengt kom hit med en konstig mackapär, virade kablar runt kranarna och hettade på något sätt upp ledningarna så att vattnet kunde rinna igen. Det var ordentligt fruset – trots att vi bara var hemifrån några timmar på julafton. Nu stänger vi inte kranarna förrän till midsommar.
At last! The water pipes are thawed and we have water again. We have only had water in the kitchen, and only cold water, cold as ice, since Christmas Eve. Not much fun to wash your feet in. Electrician Bengt came over with a strange gizmo, winded cables around the faucets and in some way heated the pipes so the water could run again. It was thoroughly frozen – although we were gone from home only a few hours in X-mas Eve. Now we will not shut the faucets until midsummer.
På juldagen for vi till Sundsvall där vi plockade upp Karin. Sedan åkte vi till pensionärshemmet i Indal för att hälsa på Hans. Han var glad att se oss och vi hoppas han uppskattar den lilla julklappen.
On Christmas day we went to Sundsvall where we picked Karin up. Then we went to the senior home in Indal to visit Hans. He was happy to see us and we hope he enjoys the little X-mas gift.
Mätta och glada promenerade vi hem till Kolbacken på julaftonsnatten, ca 3 km i -30 grader. Vi var rätt utrustade så det gick bra. Men när vi kom hem hade vattenledningen under huset och till varmvattenberedaren frusit – som man ser på bilden är kranen öppen men inget vatten kommer. Inte så bra under helgen… Vi har kallvatten i köket, det är allt.
Full and happy we walked home to Kolbacken Christmas night, about 3 km (2 miles) in -30 centigrades. We were properly equipped so it was ok. But when we got home the water pipe under the house and the pipe to the water heater had frozen – as you can see on the picture, the tap is open but there is no water. Not so good during the holiday… We have cold water in the kitchen, that’s all.
Vi tillbringade julaftonen hemma hos Britt och John där vi åt oss nästan fördärvade på Britts härliga traditionella julmat. Därefter julklappsutdelning – damerna kommer i fortsättningen att vara såväl rika som rynkfria. Herrarna kommer att lukta ok. Enligt traditionen vann Sigge sällskapsspelet som vi spelade efter det.
We spent Christmas Eve with at John’s and Britt’s where we were spoiled with Britt’s lovely traditional Christmas dinner. After that, distribution of X-mas gifts – the ladies will hereafter be both rich and wrinkle free. The gentlemen will smell all right. Very traditionally Sigge won the the social game we played after that.
Det går inte att vara ledig bara för att julen närmar sig. Ylva tog med datorn till Kolbacken för att kunna jobba. Inget bord har vi för den så det fick bli det gamla symaskinsbordet som fanns i huset när vi köpte det. Det kommer att ersättas med ett lånebord från Britt.
You can’t be free just because X-mas is getting nearer. Ylva brought the PC to Kolbacken to be able to work. We don’t have a table for it so it had to be the old sewing machine table that was in the house already when we bought it. It will be replaced by a borrowed table from Britt.
Till Kolbacken för att fira jul. Så här såg det ut mitt på dagen från vårt gårdstun. -31 grader Celsius.

Fast vi inte ens passerat nyår än så är vi nästan översnöade. Halva entrén är under tak och ändå ser det ut så här. I morgon far vi upp till Norrland för att fira jul. Om vi kommer dit. Låt oss hoppas alla centraleuropeiska lastbilschaufförer stannar inomhus tills snöandet är över (med tanke på deras däcksstatus och så vidare).
Although we haven’t even passed New Year’s yet we’re almost all covered with snow. Half the entrance is under roof and still this is how it looks. Tomorrow we will go up to Norrland to celebrate Christmas. If we get there. Let’s hope all the Central European truck drivers stay indoors until the snowing is over (considering the status of their tires and so on).
Det snöar och snöar. Grillen är begravd i snö igen. Det är väl bara att vänta tills det slutar snöa och gå ut och göra samma skottningsjobb igen.
It snows and snows. The grill is buried in snow again. Nothing else to do but to wait until it stops snowing and go out and do the same shovelling job again.
