Dagen före första advent/The day before the first Advent

Idag är dagen när vi försöker samla ihop oss inför Advent, väntans tider trots att vi inte är särskilt kyrkliga av oss. För oss innebär ihopsamlingen att få till det lilla adventspynt vi ägnar oss åt. Vilket i sin tur innebär att gå ut i skogen för att hämta lite diverse. Det var på sina ställen rätt stökigt i skogen, men när vi kom fram till fäbodvallen var det desto lugnare. Vi fick med oss lite mossa, lav och ris hem. Och trattkantareller.

Today is the day when we try to collect ourselves before Advent, the time of expectant waiting even though we are not particularly religious. For us, collecting ourselves is to see to the little Advent decorations we engage in. Which in turn means going out into the forest to fetch some miscellaneous stuff. It was in places quite messy in the woods, but when we arrived at the mountain pasture there was calm. We got us a little moss, lichen and spruce spray home. And chanterelles.

Fredag och svampjakt/Friday and mushroom hunt

Med synnerligen trevliga arbetstider finns utrymme för annat än arbete på fredagseftermiddagen. T ex att fara ut för att hitta lite soppsvamp. Vi for till ett av ”ställena”. Där var det tydligt att vintern är på ingång; snö på både små tak och grenar. Men vädret var vackert (rent enerverande sol på sina ställen) och vi hittade svamp. Visserligen frusen. Men god.
With extremely pleasant working hours there is room for more than just work on Friday afternoon. For example, to go out to find some soup mushrooms. We went to one of the ”sites”. There, it was clear that winter is coming; snow on both tiny roofs and branches. But the weather was beautiful (quite enervating sun in places actually) and we found mushrooms. Although frozen. But good.

Bärfrossa/Berry gluttany

Vi for till skogs, Sigge, Ylva och John, för att hämta lite av ”skogens röda guld”. Eftersom den äldste av oss har koll på ställena så hittade vi ungefär hur mycket bär som helst. Som vi plockade! Snart var hinkarna i princip fyllda. Det slank med några enstaka blåbär bland lingonen av misstag. Sagt och gjort, nästa dag for vi tillbaka till samma ställe för att hämta ”skogens blåa guld” (”silver”??). Inte riktigt samma resultat men vi klagar verkligen inte. Väl hemma, ja vad hittade vi där? Riktigt fina, stora och mogna svartvinbär. När ska vi hinna äta alla?

We went to the forest, Sigge, Ylva and John, to get some of ”the forest’s red gold”. As the eldest of us have an eye for places we found about as berries as possible. And we picked! Soon the buckets were basically full. A few blueberries ended up among the lingonberries by mistake. Said and done, the next day we went back to the same place to fetch some of ”the forest’s blue gold” (”silver”??). Not quite the same result, but we really cannot complain. Back home, well, what did we find there? Really nice, big and ripe black currant. When will we have time to eat all?

Valkallen

Något måste vi göra, annat än att bara ligga och slappa. Vi tog en promenad-/vandringstur upp på Valkallens topp för att riktigt känna av Höga kusten. Fantastisk utsikt. Fantastiskt svettigt att ta sig dit. Fantastiskt skönt att göra det.
We needed to do something, other than to just lie down and relax. We took a walking / hiking tour up to the mountain Valkallen’s top to really feel the High coast. Stunning views. Amazingly sweaty to get there. Amazingly pleasant to do it.

Träds öde/Tree’s fate

Vi for ut i skogen en sväng och blev ganska tagna av den förödelse som stormarna Sven och Ivar har åstadkommit. Alla dessa grandiosa träd som fallit! Vi tog med en liten släkting, som nu står helt blygsamt vid vår dörr.
We went out into the woods for a ride and was quite taken by the devastation caused by the storms and Sven and Ivar. All these grand trees that have fallen! We brought a small relative, who now stands quite modestly by our door.

En grå dag/A grey day

Idag gled gryningen över till skymning utan att vi ens märkte det – grått, grått, grått. Turligt nog finns det promenadstråk som är trevliga att besöka även i detta trista ljus. Och nu finns det ny information uppsatt om de mer intressanta platserna längs stigen. Så här såg Nyfors med all säkerhet ut just idag och kanske hur det såg ut år 1670, när denna plats var en viktig industriort.
Today dawn slipped over to dusk without us even noticing it – grey, grey, grey. Luckily there are walks nice to walk even in this gloomy light. And now there is new information on display about the more interesting spots along the trail. This is how Nyfors looked today, for sure, and maybe how it looked in the year 1670, when this place was an important industrial community.

Omhändertagen skog/Taken care of forest

Senaste besöket i Älvsjöskogen avslöjade ännu fler åtgärder för att få folk att trivas där. Denna lilla oas i södra Stockholm har länge varit omhändertagen, stigarna är mycket välhållna o s v. Och nu har både villaägarföreningen och Älvsjö stadsdelsförvaltning gjort vad de kan för att informera om skogen.
The last visit in the Älvsjö forest revealed even more measures to get people to like it there. This little oasis in south Stockholm has been taken care of for long, the paths are very well kept and so on. And now both the estate owners’ association and Älvsjö city area board has done what they can to give information about the forest.

Skoter till Tuäggen/Snowmobile to Tuäggen

Igår var det en riktigt vacker vårvinterdag. Vi tog skotern till Tuäggen-stugan och bjöds på härlig utsikt där.

Yesterday it was a really beautiful early spring day. We took the snowmobile to the Tuäggen cottage where we were offered a magnificent view.

Kantarelljakt/Chanterelle hunt

Vi gav oss ut i skogen för att hitta några kantareller och njuta av det fina vädret. Vi både hittade svamp och blev överväldigade av skogslandskapet. Som boken som Ylva just producerar fastställer: Skog dominerar Sverige och täcker mer än halva landet, vilket den inte gör i Europa i sin helhet.
We went out into the woods to find some chanterelles and enjoy the nice weather. We both found mushrooms and were overwhelmed by the forest landscape. As the book Ylva is producing for the moment states: Forests dominate Sweden, and cover more than half the country, which is not the case in Europe as a whole.

Är det svampår i år?/Is this year a mushroom year?

Redan talas det rätt mycket om svampskördar och är man ute i skogen så ränner det runt väldigt många människor med plastkassar i handen och med näsan nära marken. Nu är det kanske inte just denna svamp man längtar efter att plocka men den tyder i alla fall på att förhållandena är goda.
Already there is quite a lot of talk about mushroom harvest and if you are out in the forest very many people run around with plastic bags in their hands and with the nose close to the ground. Now it might not be this particular mushroom you long to pick but at least it suggests that the conditions are good.
