Parkeringsplatsavgift/Parking lot fee

Vår hyrda parkeringsplats i Stockholms södra förort står naturligtvis tom för det mesta. Men sedan april har vi låtit en behövande person i området använda den. Nu hade vi ärende till Stockholm och behövde platsen. Det visade sig att han som lånar platsen är en kulturell person som 1) varit medförfattare till en jättefin bok om konstnären Gunnar Tenggren och 2) själv författat en ungdomsdeckare. Vi fick båda böckerna som tack för lånet av platsen plus en fin flaska whisky. En verkligt positiv överraskning!

Of course, our rented parking space in Stockholm’s southern suburb is empty for the most part. But since April, we have let a needy person in the area use it. Now we had a reason to go to Stockholm and needed the space. It turned out that he who borrows the place is a cultural person who 1) was a co-author of a very nice book about the artist Gunnar Tenggren and 2) himself wrote a youth detective story. We got both books as a thank you for the loan of the place plus a nice bottle of whiskey. A really positive surprise!

Cruising in Kramfors 2019

Höga Kusten Motorvecka pågår och denna kväll var det cruising i Kramfors. Många snygga bilar, men även ett antal som liksom inte hörde hemma i detta sammanhang. Gruppen Nowhere Man skulle ha spelat Beatleslåtar från taket på Gallerian men eftersom det regnade fick de flytta ner till gatuplan. Det gick det också.

The High Coast Motor Week is on and this evening there was cruising in Kramfors. Many nice cars, but also some that didn’t quite belong in this context. The group Nowhere Man would have played Beatles songs from the roof of the Galleria but as it rained they had to move down to street level. That was ok, too.

Opel med V8 — Sigge blev helt lycklig av denna skapelse redan innan vi kom till torget. *Sigge was totally happy with this creation even before we got to the square.*

Öltält. — Öltältet var ganska öde. Inte konstigt, en öl i plastglas kostade 70 kr. *The beer tent was quite deserted. No wonder, a beer in a plastic glass cost 70 SEK.*

Bilhögtalare — Partyt fortsatte på ICA:s parkering där killarna med ordentliga högtalare i bilarna samlades. RIKTIGA högtalare. *The party continued on ICA’s parking lot where the guys with proper speakers in the cars gathered. REAL speakers.*

Denna bil…/This car…

Vår franska bil är ett kapitel för sig. Så fort ett problem åtgärdats blir det fel på något nytt. Vi har nog inte haft en dag de senaste åren då allt fungerat som det ska i bilen. Nu läcker kylarvatten. Fram med värmepistol och Plastic Padding (alla sätt är bra utom de dåliga). Men det räckte inte…

Our French car is a chapter in itself. As soon as one problem has been resolved, something new goes wrong. We have not had a day in recent years when everything has worked as it should in the car. Now there is a cooling water leakage. Out with the heat gun and Plastic Padding (all measures are good except the bad ones). But it didn’t do it…

Sommardäck/Summer tires

Fransmannen har fått sommardäck, sprillans nya. De kommer att vara lika smutsiga som resten av bilen före dagens slut. Och nu talar väderrapporten om snö och is på vägarna…
The frenchman has gotten new summer tires, brand new ones. They will be as dirty as the rest of the car before the end of the day. And now the weather report speaks of snow and ice on the roads…

Hal uppfart/Slippery drive way

I morse när vi skulle iväg var det så halt att vi knappt kom uppför backen. Bilen började glida bakåt mot ”stupet”. Det var bara att ta fram spaden och täcka isen med sand. Vi längtar efter den dag när vi har en annan uppfart, inte så brant.

This morning when we were leaving it was so slippery, we hardly could get up the slope. The car started to slide backwards toward the “verge”. The only thing to do was to grab a shovel and cover the ice with sand. We long for the day when we have another drive way, not so steep.

Sigges resa hem från byggsajten igår slutade med två däck djupt nere i snön utanför vårt hus. Djupt nog att ha anledning att kalla på någon som kunde bärga den. Han kom och sedan var problemet borta. (Denne någon var tvungen att komma och få vår elektrikers bil ur samma predikament på nästan samma ställe förra året. Vi måste göra något åt vår uppfart.)
Sigge’s trip home from the building site yesterday ended with two tires deep down in the snow outside our house. Deep enough to have a reason to call for somebody who could tow it. He came and then the problem was gone. (This somebody had to come and get our electrician’s car out of the same predicament at almost the same spot last year. We have to do something about our drive way.)

Ännu en bil/Yet another car

Så var det dags för ny bil igen. Denna gång ett mullrande machomonster som ska bidra till snabbare bygge (?). Det betyder att maskinparken just nu består av fyra bilar. Men två ska säljas så snart det går.
So, time for a new car again. This time a rumbling macho monster that will contribute to faster building work (?). This means that the machine park now consists of four cars. But two will be sold as soon as possible.

Varm bil/Hot car

Den av oss som har plikter i Stockholm måste förstås vara där ibland. Denna gång per bil (även om tåg nog är det bekvämaste färdsättet). Men återigen (detta hände även när vi senast for åt andra hållet) blev bilen kokande het i bilkön som rörde sig med farten 10 km/h in mot city. Bara att ta det cool och vänta tills även bilen gjorde det och kön började röra sig så att vi fick lite kylande fartvind. Det tog ungefär två timmar tills det hände – så klart var detta sommarens hittills varmaste dag. En bok är aldrig fel i handväskan!

The one of us who has duties in Stockholm of course has to be there every now and then. This time by car (although train probably is the most comfortable means of transportation). But again (this also happened when we last time went the opposite way) the car got boiling hot in the line of cars that moved with the speed 10 km/h towards the city. The only thing to do was to be cool and wait until the car too was cool and the queue started moving in a pace that gave some cooling wind. It took about two hours for that to happen – naturally this was tha hottest day so far this summer. A book never is wrong in one’s purse!

Vi utökar maskinparken/We extend the machine park

Flytta-ut-dagen närmar sig. Vi har inte levt i kappsäck fram till nu. Det finns saker på vår boplats. Det enda att göra är att skaffa sig ett lämpligt fordon.

Moving-out-day approaches. We haven’t lived in a suitcase until now. There are things in our dwelling place. The only thing to do is to acquire a suitable vehicle.

Nytt åk/New ride

Den lilla röda blev för liten och för besvärlig. Vi for till Västerås och köpte en ersättare som ska ta oss till Norrland senare i veckan. Stort packutrymme och stort benutrymme. Inte italiensk.

The little red one got too small and too obnoxious. We went to Västerås and bought a substitute that will take us to Norrland later this week. Lots of packing space and lots of leg space. Not Italian.
